BALLY POSTERS BY BERNARD VILLEMOT
Bernard Villemot, one of the leading graphic designers in France during the post-war period, is regarded as one of France’s most talented twentieth century poster artists. His work, characterised by vivid colours, thin outlines and abstracted and organic forms, drew high-profile advertising clients like Air France, Perrier, Orangina and Bergasol. During the 1960s, Villemot was approched by the Director of Publicity for Bally Shoes to create a poster for the company due to a lack of creativity in the current designs. Villemot’s arrestingly simple posters contributed enormously to the glamourous and stylishly sophisticated image of Bally shoes. The success of his designs led Bally to repeatedly commission him to design their posters from the 1960s through to his death in 1989…I am a huge Bally fan and recently discovered Villemot’s work. I anticipate starting a new collection.
