Saturday night, Russell Simmons hosted the annual Dallas Rocks fundraiser for his Diamond Empowerment Fund in Dallas, Texas. Among the honorees was retired Houston Rockets star, Dikembe Mutombo, who received a humanitarian award for founding the $29 million Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in his hometown of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Smokey Robinson brought the crowd to their feet for a standing ovation, proving why is, indeed, a true living legend. The whole Simmons’ family was there to celebrate Run’s birthday who joined me for an incredible impromptu performance of “It’s Like That,” “It’s Tricky,” “King Of Rock,” “Rock Box,” and “Walk This Way.” Stay tuned for the video. Hip Hop, humanitarianism, and heart. A night to remember.

Wow….meeting Smokey Robinson is like a dream come true, not just for who he is, but especially after the way he spoke at the Michael Jackson memorial. Super dope….
