“BREAKIN’” IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME. AS HOLLYWOOD OF AN INTERPRETATION AS IT WAS, “BREAKIN’” TOOK A BIG PART IN INTRODUCING ME TO HIP HOP. WHEN I WAS THREE YEARS OLD MY GRANDMOTHER TAPED “BREAKIN’” AND “BREAKIN 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO” OFF OF HBO. SHE DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO USE A VCR TOO WELL AND TAPED THEM IN BLACK-AND-WHITE SO I ACTUALLY DIDN’T SEE THEM IN COLOR UNTIL I WAS IN MY TEENS. SHE CLAIMS SHE RECORDED THEM BECAUSE I LIKED HIP HOP BUT I DON’T THINK AT AGE THREE I LIKED ANYTHING. ANYWAY, I WATCHED THESE MOVIES AND DANCED AROUND THE HOUSE TO THEIR SOUNDTRACKS ALL DAY EVERY DAY. I NEVER QUITE POPPED AND LOCKED TO CHAKA KHAN’S “AIN’T NOBODY” AS GOOD AS TURBO AND OZONE BUT I TRIED. TURBO WAS ALWAYS MY FAVORITE. HERE HE IS IN AN AQUA FRESH COMMERICAL FROM THE EARLY EIGHTIES. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THIS AND OTHER GREAT TURBO FOOTAGE, ALL OF WHICH I WILL BE POSTING AT SOME POINT.

To commemorate Valentine’s Day, watchmaker Jaquet Droz has created a limited-edition timepiece designed to convey the spirit of love. Only eight models will be made of the new Grande Seconde Medium, Saint Valentin, which features a dial in the shape of a figure eight, meant to symbolize the union of two hearts as two interlocking circles. The rolled-edge red alligator-skin strap and bright red hands (with a tiny heart pointing to the time) distinguish the piece from earlier Grande Seconde models, the icon of the 18th-century Swiss brand. If i had a girlfriend, this would be the number-one contender for her valentine’s day gift.

DIGITAL UNDERGROUND, OF WHICH 2PAC WAS THEN A MEMBER, PERFORMS THEIR SONG “SAME SONG” IN THIS COMEDY STARRING CHEVY AS WELL DAN AYKROYD, JOHN CANDY, AND DEMI MOORE. ALTHOUGH 2PAC DOESN’T DO HIS VERSE, HE DOES APPEAR IN WHAT WAS HIS FIRST MOVIE ROLE. OF COURSE, JUICE WAS RELEASED THE FOLLOWING YEAR AND TOOK AUDIENCES, INCLUDING MYSELF, BY STORM.

SHOT UNDER THE DIRECTION OF CREATIVE DIRECTOR BRIAN ATWOOD AND ART DIRECTOR THOMAS LENTHAL, THE INTENTION WAS TO SHOW A COUPLE WHO KNOWS HOW TO LIVE LIFE WELL.
